Who was America’s first celebrity first lady?

She lived more than a century ago. That eliminates some likely guess like Jacqueline Kennedy or Michelle Obama. She was the youngest woman to become first lady and was an instant media darling. At 21 years old, Frances Folsom married bachelor President Grover Cleveland, and so began a “celebrity-culture feeding frenzy.”

S.J. Ackerman, writing for the The Washington Post Magazine, has the details on how Frances — aka “Frank” — brought celebrity to the White House.
