On Tuesday, one day before his 82nd birthday, former secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld publicly listed his tony Kalorama home. HBD, indeed. For just $5,000 shy of $4.5 million (bargain!), you, too, can live like the guy known for his hilarious and awkward Pentagon press conferences.
Situated directly across from the French embassy (which is under construction) la casa Rummy is more than 5,000 square feet, with seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a pool, and a walk score of 83 out of 100. After he was named defense secretary by President George W. Bush in 2001, Rumsfeld bought the home for $3.35 million, according to the real estate Web site Zillow.com.
The house on Kalorama Road is described by the listing agency, Washington Fine Properties, as “a handsome brick federal” in “Washington’s Mayfair” (a nod to the London neighborhood of the same name and code for a fancy place for fancy people).
