ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Updates
The #ALSIceBucketChallenge craze doesn’t seem to be cooling off (pun totally intended). Several more celebs have dumped ice cold water over their heads in the name of raising money and awareness for the ALS Association’s efforts to fight Amyotropic lateral sclerosis, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.”
Lady Gaga made her challenge video as creepy as possible, wearing a black leotard with mesh cutouts, black lipstick and a blank stare. Drake had Lil’ Wayne pour a bucket of ice water on him while onstage at the Pittsburgh stop of their Drake v.s. Lil’ Wayne tour and nominated Beyoncé to take the challenge next. James Franco took the challenge while pantsless, “The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev did it in a bikini and Miley Cyrus switched out the ice for rice in her video because, “it ain’t about the pourin’ it’s about the payin’ and awareness.”
Despite the joy of watching the rich and famous deliberately dump gallons of freezing water all over themselves, the point of the challenge is not being lost in the hype. According to Forbes, $15 million dollars have been raised, so far.
Golfer says winning streak has nothing to do with break-up
Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is now the No. 1 golfer in the world after the string of wins he’s had since splitting with his ex-fiancée, Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki in May. Earlier this month, ESPN reported that McIlroy credited the break-up with his recent winning streak by saying, “I think what happened has been for the better in terms of my golf” and “I’ve put a bit more time into it and it has refocused me. I mean, what else do I have to do now?”
However, when McIlroy appeared on the “Today” show on Tuesday, Aug. 19, he told Willie Geist that those quotes were “taken out of context and spun by the media.”
“What I was trying to say was, it’s not directly related in any way. I may or may not have a little more time on my hands these days, but that doesn’t mean to say that is why I’m playing great golf. Regardless of if I’m in any relationship or not, I’m capable of great golf,” McIlroy said.
