Say goodbye to those dusty, smokey D.C. steakhouses of yesteryear, and hello to a new class of hip eateries that are attracting the city’s elite and visiting celebrities.
Meet Georgetown’s Fiola Mare, Downtown’s Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab, and Dupont Circle’s STK. Think of them as the cooler kid sisters to established power spots like The Palm and Cafe Milano.
You’re likely to catch a glimpse of bold-faced names like President Obama, Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, the Wizards’ John Wall and 007 himself, Pierce Brosnan — if you can beat the crowds to a table.
Managers at all three restaurants agree the secret to success is treating these VIPs like they’re one of us (no selfies please!). But having a famous face does come with at least a few perks when dining out.
Here’s what is on the menu for the city’s top diners:
Fiola Mare: Where Hollywood stars meet D.C. elite
Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab: Where politicians find their flavor
STK: Where athletes score big
This is the second story in a Reliable Source series called “Lifestyles of the Rich and Fabulous” that explores the lives of D.C.’s VIP residents and visitors. Stay tuned to find out much more about how the elite live.
