Close watchers of the Supreme Court typically pore over every move the justices make from the bench, looking for clues about how the opposing sides’ arguments are going over. So that cast encasing Sonia Sotomayor’s right hand Monday might have thrown them for a bit of a loop. (Why the right hand? What does it all mean?)

Sounds like no biggie: A court spokesperson said Sotomayor had a procedure earlier this month to treat compressed nerves in her right arm. The cast is slated to come off later this week. Perhaps in the meantime, she could borrow a pair of her colleague Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s signature lace gloves?
