Michelle Obama has a clear message for first daughters, Malia and Sasha: You’re not influential.
Appearing on “Live with Kelly and Michael” during Monday’s annual White House Easter Egg Roll, the first lady, wearing shades during the entire interview, had some shade to spare for the youngest members of the Obama clan.
“They are not influential,” Obama said with a laugh, when asked what Malia, 16, and Sasha, 13, thought of being named two of Time Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Teenagers of 2014. Malia received the same title in 2013.
“They just live here,” continued the first lady, pointing to the family’s famous address. “They have done nothing to gain influence.”
Fans of the “The Cosby Show” will recognize the parental sentiment from a very special episode in the seminal show’s third season. Daughter Vanessa gets into a fight at school when two girls on the pep squad make fun of her for being a “stuck-up rich girl.”
When she complains that “none of this would have happened if we weren’t so rich,” dad Heathcliff clarifies, “Let me get something straight, okay. Your mother and I are rich. You have nothing.”
