The divorce of Hunter and Kathleen Biden was literally turning into tabloid fodder, with reports that the son of the former vice president had begun dating his late brother’s widow.

The New York Post aired other, tawdrier allegations in back-and-forth court filings — Kathleen Biden accused her husband of creating “situations that are unsafe or traumatic for the parties’ children,” the newspaper reported.

But now the estranged couple, who have three children, is looking to settle things peacefully. In a filing this week in D.C. Superior Court, they agreed to drop the contested divorce and settle the matter.

“The parties recognize the benefit to themselves, their children, and their families in moving to finalize their divorce amicably and privately,” the Bidens wrote in a joint consent motion filed with the court. “Both parties acknowledge the valuable contributions that each has made to their marriage and are committed to closing this chapter of their relationship in a dignified, respectful, and family-focused manner.”

Former vice president Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, have given their blessing to the relationship between Hunter Biden and Hallie Biden, the widow of Hunter’s brother, Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015.

“We are all lucky that Hunter and Hallie found each other as they were putting their lives together again after such sadness,” the former Veep told the New York Post. “They have mine and Jill’s full and complete support and we are happy for them.”
