The Terrapins (17-1-2) will host Brown (12-2-3) or Drexel (12-3-3) on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Ludwig Field, while the Hoyas (17-3-1) will await Alabama-Birmingham (10-7-2) or 2011 runner-up Charlotte (14-3-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at North Kehoe Field.
Four other teams from the Washington region were selected: Virginia Commonwealth (12-3-5) is the No. 14 seed and will face Syracuse or Cornell on Sunday night; Virginia (9-6-4) will host Lafayette (9-7-4) in Thursday’s first round at 1:30 p.m., with the winner traveling to No. 13 New Mexico; and Old Dominion (11-3-2) will host UMBC (11-4-5) on Thursday night, with the winner playing defending champion North Carolina (15-3-2).
The 16 seeds are, in order: Notre Dame, Maryland, Georgetown, Connecticut, Akron, UCLA, Marquette, Saint Louis, North Carolina, Louisville, Tulsa, Creighton, New Mexico, VCU, Wake Forest and Indiana.
If the seeds hold form, Maryland’s path to the College Cup semifinals — and a possible third title in eight years — would include Wake Forest and Marquette.
For the second consecutive year, the College Cup will take place in Hoover, Ala., outside of Birmingham, Dec. 7-9.
