In a showdown between the top-ranked women’s teams in the world, the United States relinquished a two-goal lead late in the second half and settled for a 3-3 away draw against Germany in a friendly Friday in Offenbach.
All the scoring came in a 39-minute span, beginning with Abby Wambach‘s 155th goal, leaving her three short of Mia Hamm‘s world record. Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan also scored for the top-ranked Americans, but Germany struck in the 85th and 86th minutes to secure the tie.
The United States (25-0-5 since March 2012) will visit the Netherlands on Tuesday (1 p.m. ET, ESPN3.com and ESPNW.com) before the NWSL-based players return stateside for the league’s inaugural weekend.
