Virginia’s Todd Wharton challenges Maryland’s Patrick Mullins in the second College Cup semifinal at PPL Park. (By Rich Schultz — Associated Press)

The passes were exquisite, the finishes were pure class. Maryland’s Patrick Mullins, the 2012 Hermann Trophy winner and the possible No. 1 pick in next month’s MLS draft, capped both sequences with goals as the Terrapins defeated Virginia, 2-1, for their 11th consecutive victory and a berth in the College Cup final. Maryland will face Notre Dame at 3 p.m. Sunday at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.

“Brilliant balls,” said Mullins, who broke a three-way tie for the nation’s scoring lead and now has 18. “As a forward, all you can do is make hard runs and hope the ball gets there. When you have great players feeding you the ball, more times than not they are going to get there. I got two great services and made sure to put them away.”
