D.C. United says they’re done making roster moves for the time being. I trust them. So it’s safe to go on vacation. Probably.

Henceforth, the Insider will slip into holiday hibernation and not return until Jan. 2.

Off-the-grid priorities:

1. Family.

2. Fitness.

3. Extended family.

4. “The Wire” box set.

5. Russell Banks’ new book.

6. Candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.

Upon awakening from deep slumber, the Insider will change tone in the new year.

Fewer kickarounds and general news items; more essays, observations and, in mainstream terms, “On Soccer” columns with stronger opinion. Greater emphasis on the approaching World Cup; less emphasis on MLS as a whole (while still maintaining vigorous United beat coverage). The weekend TV & online listings, time-consuming and tedious with the ever-growing number of options, will not return. The Soccer & Society feature has also run its course.

An exciting year awaits, both professionally (my 6th World Cup) and personally (20th anniversary with Wife of Insider, college for Son of Insider).

We end 2013 with Bruce & the Big Man, SNL animation, and Bing & Bowie …
