Klinsmann sets roster for Mexico friendly

The 22-man U.S. national team roster for next Wednesday’s friendly against Mexico at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.:

Goalkeepers: Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake).

Defenders: DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Omar Gonzalez (L.A. Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Michael Orozco (Puebla), Michael Parkhurst (Columbus Crew), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders).

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Philadelphia Union), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).

Forwards: Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Eddie Johnson (D.C. United), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes).

Of note: The match does not fall on a FIFA fixture date, essentially limiting both teams to domestic-based players only. … Klinsmann’s Tijuana players — Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona and Herculez Gomez — are not available because of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals next week. … Klinsmann had planned to name 23 players but dropped one to stand-by status. … More than 47,000 tickets have been sold. … Camp opens Sunday in Phoenix. … Mexico will probably make its roster announcement Thursday. … ESPN, UniMas, WatchESPN and will carry the match, starting at 11 p.m. ET.
