Major League Soccer’s disciplinary committee has suspended D.C. United forward Eddie Johnson one game for a “reckless challenge” against Montreal goalkeeper Troy Perkins during last weekend’s 1-1 draw at RFK Stadium.

Johnson, who was also fined an undisclosed amount, will miss Wednesday’s home match against the Houston Dynamo.

On Johnson’s behalf, the MLS players’ union appealed the suspension Tuesday. It was denied. He practiced with the team earlier in the day as he awaited the ruling. Conor Doyle is likely to start in place of Johnson, who scored his first goal of the season against Montreal. It was Johnson’s first appearance since being left off the U.S. World Cup training camp roster.

The league fined Johnson a second time — again, an undisclosed figure — for making contact with Wandrille Lefevre‘s face during a scuffle that followed the Perkins sequence.
