Somebody, help:

“Several people I must deal with in my day-to-day life are compulsive talkers. Their non-stop talking makes me feel tired and even desperate. I’ve tried telling them I only have a few minutes, that I have to leave for an unexpected call, that I need some quiet time to think about something. They still don’t stop. I think they are incapable of being silent, and they seem not to be aware of their effect on others. One was furious when her son said, ‘Be quiet, Mother. Please.’ Do you have any suggestions for getting these people to stop talking when we cannot avoid being with them for an extended period of time?”

If you’ve found a way through these weeds, do share. (Briefly?)
