Wal-Mart is slashing iPhone prices.
Starting Thursday at 9 a.m. local times, the retail giant is selling the iPhone 5s for $79 and the iPhone 5c for a mere 97 cents. Previously the iPhone 5s was $99 and the iPhone 5c was $29 at Wal-Mart.
The new discounts apply to smartphones be used with a two-year contract through AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or US Cellular. According to Engadget, the deal will be valid for 90 days. Although it’s only a $20 price cut, it still much cheaper than to get these smartphones from Apple Store, where it cost $199 for 16GB iPhone 5s with a two-year contract.
It seems as if Wal-Mart is preparing for the next generation of iPhone, which was rumored to be coming on Sept. 9. When Apple gears up to release its new products, retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target usually try to get rid of the old phones they have in stock by slashing prices.
The rumor has been heating up over the past months, with images leaked of the next iPhone, which is expected to come with a larger 4.7-inch screen, a new processor, enhanced camera, reversible USB cable and a design that resembles the iPad Air.
