A.J. Hendy likely won’t play against Wake Forest

Barring an injury in the secondary, A.J. Hendy likely won’t line up in the defensive backfield Saturday against Wake Forest, Coach Randy Edsall said Wednesday on his weekly ACC conference call.

Hendy, who injured his ankle during the preseason, was listed as the co-backup strong safety alongside freshman Sean Davis behind Matt Robinson on the latest two-deep depth chart, but the Terps rarely play with three safeties.

“We’ve got two safeties we’re pretty comfortable with,” defensive coordinator Brian Stewart said Wednesday of Robinson and Eric Franklin.

Hendy has not appeared in a game all season, but worked on the scout team throughout the week leading up to Maryland’s 31-21 loss to West Virginia.

He’ll be off the injury report this week. As for an on-field appearance at safety, that seems doubtful.
