CHARLOTTE — Maryland senior James Padgett and sophomore Nick Faust made the trip down to ACC media day. There wasn’t much buzz around the Maryland table — North Carolina’s was just across the ballroom at the same time — but I get the sense that Padgett and Faust are probably all right with that.

According to Faust, by the way, Padgett and Pe’Shon Howard were named Maryland’s captains for the upcoming season.

Here are some tidbits from Faust’s availability:

On the 2012-13 Terps: I think we’re very young, talented, we listen to Coach [Mark Turgeon] right way. Everyone respects him, whatever he says we feel is right. They’re moving along, working their hardest. Shaq [Cleare]’s a very strong and powerful guy, working on his footwork. Physically, I think he’s ready for the ACC. Seth [Allen], Jake [Layman], they’re very talented, and they’re just making that adjustment from high school to college.

We’re more together, more of a complete team. We have young guys who can fill the basket up, scoring, losing Terrell [Stoglin], I feel like we’ll be fine. We have enough talent.

On his personal expectations: I definitely want to make a big jump. I want to make a big freshman-to-sophomore year jump. I came in a highly ranked player, and I want to leave as a highly ranked player.

On Turgeon: He’s definitely happier. Our team, we bring it every day. Everyone works hard. Coach is definitely happy with the team, everyone putting in extra work. Our team last year was very moody. We didn’t really bring it every day like we should. This year, coach feels as though the effort was there every day. Guys are always going at it, more into it, buying in.

A lot has changed since Coach has been here, when he instilled the mentality of just bringing it every day. Coach is a guy who wants effort, he wants you to play your hardest. Bringing it every day, making changes around, locker room is upgraded, office is upgraded. Coach is just trying to bring change.
