For the fourth time in eight games this season, Stefon Diggs has been named to the all-ACC weekly team.

Maryland’s freshman receiver earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for the third time in 2012, joining senior Joe Vellano, who was name the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week. Diggs also won ACC Specialist of the Week after a returning the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown against Virginia.

Diggs posted career highs in receptions and receiving yards for the Terps in their 20-17 loss at Boston College on Saturday, including a 66-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave Maryland a 17-13 lead in the fourth quarter, the fourth time in five games that he’s had a reception of at least 50 yards.

Ranked second in the ACC in all-purpose yardage behind North Carolina’s Giovani Bernard, Diggs is also in the top five in punt and kickoff returns and receiving yards per game, as well as 16th among the nation’s top 100 receivers in yards per catch. All told, Diggs is making a strong case for himself as the ACC Freshman of the Year midway through Maryland’s conference slate.

Vellano, an all-American in 2011, was a monster along the defensive front against the Eagles, recording 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble as the Terps allowed just eight rushing yards. His 1.75 tackles for loss per game is tops in the ACC and ranks ninth nationally.
