National Signing Day 2013: athlete Jacquille Veii

VITALS

Name: Jacquille Veii.

Position: athlete.

High school: Avalon School in Gaithersburg.

Height, weight: 5 feet 9, 173 pounds.

Rank: Three stars (ESPN.com) and two stars (247sports.com)

SCOUTING REPORT

>> Veii decommitted from Maryland amid some academic issues, and after reopening his recruitment had fielded offers from both Iowa and Nebraska, but ultimately announced Wednesday that he would remain home.

>> During his senior season at Avalon, a school of less than 200 students, Veii rushed for 744 yards and nine touchdowns, and also caught 20 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Veii snagged four interceptions, earning an invitation to the 2012 Crab Bowl and second-team Maryland Small School All-State honors.

>> Veii’s position at Maryland remains in flux. He is listed by most scouting services as a defensive back, though according to classmate DeAndre Lane, who will move from running back to slot receiver this season, Veii was being recruited as a running back, necessitating Lane’s positional switch.
