Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown has been granted a sixth year of eligibility, an individual with knowledge of the situation said. The Terrapins received word Tuesday afternoon that Brown’s NCAA waiver appeal had been processed and approved.

Brown is currently rehabbing a torn ACL that ended his 2012 season before it ever began. He is projected to be fully healthy by preseason camp in August, but so far hasn’t progressed beyond 7-on-7s into scrimmage situations. Ricardo Young has been taking first-team repetitions and will be the starter for Friday’s spring game at Byrd Stadium.

One of Maryland’s four captains last season despite spending its entirety on the sidelines, Brown split time in 2011 with Danny O’Brien, played four snaps in 2010 and redshirted in 2009.

The granted sixth year affords Brown two more seasons in College Park.
