On the same day that running back Wes Brown accepted a one-year university suspension, with the possibility of returning for the spring semester, an athletics spokesman confirmed Madaras’s punishment.
A rising sophomore who, like Brown, hails from Good Counsel, Madaras will effectively only miss four preseason practices thanks to the retroactive suspension. He will be eligible to return on Aug. 9, four days after the Terrapins open camp in College Park.
A former Under Armour all-American, Madaras started the final eight games at left tackle for Maryland, taking the starting job for Nick Klemm. He is the offensive line’s second most-experienced member, despite being just 18 years old, in terms of career starts.
