Maryland basketball schedule released for 2013-14

On Thursday, the Maryland men’s basketball team formally announced its schedule for the 2013-14 season, the school’s last in the ACC. The Terrapins, who finished 25-13 and 8-10 in conference play last season, will play one ACC game — at Boston College on Dec. 12 — before January because of the additions of Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the league.

They open the new year at home on Jan. 4 against Georgia Tech before hitting the road for consecutive night games at Pittsburgh (Jan. 6, 7 p.m.) and Florida State (Jan. 12, 8 p.m.). Maryland then plays three straight games on ESPN affiliates: Notre Dame (Jan. 15, 7 p.m.), at North Carolina State (Jan. 20, 9 p.m.) and Pittsburgh (Jan. 25, 6 p.m.).

The team’s final conference game against Duke comes on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., televised nationally on ESPN or ESPN2. That is preceded by a road game five days earlier at Virginia. The regular season closes with consecutive home games against Virginia Tech (March 4) and the Cavaliers (March 9 on CBS).

“Our schedule features many of the top basketball programs in the country and we are excited to compete against these outstanding teams,” Coach Mark Turgeon said in a press release. “We have a number of challenging early season matchups, which will prepare us for a very competitive conference schedule.”

The nonconference schedule, previously reported in full here, shook out as expected, with marquee games against Connecticut (Nov. 8 at Barclays Center) and Ohio State (Dec. 4 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge) highlighting the list. Previously unannounced is a Nov. 3 exhibition against Catholic University at Comcast Center.
