Terps football vs. Florida State: Open discussion thread

(Doug Kapustin for The Washingtno Post)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Greetings from high above Doak Campbell Stadium, where outside the cornhole beanbags are spinning, the charcoal grills are smoking and everything is baking in this swampy muck. The 25th-ranked Maryland football team kicks off against No. 8 Florida State at noon, in a battle of Atlantic Division unbeatens.

Some quick pregame notes below will get you started. The links thread is here. The discussion thread is open. Plus now we have live stats. Hooray.

>> ESPN’s College GameDay mic’ed up Coach Randy Edsall during practice this week, and the segment will appear at 11:35 a.m. Dave Pasch (play-by-play), Brian Griese (color) and Tom Luginbill (sideline) will handle the call on ESPN.

>> In today’s Post, Mike Wise writes that, with an undefeated start, the Terrapins deserve respect — and ticket sales.

>> Injured cornerbacks Jeremiah Johnson (fractured toe) and Dexter McDougle (shoulder) both traveled for moral support.

Eleven true freshmen traveled: DB Will Likely, LB Yannick Ngakoue, WR DeAndre Lane, LB Jermaine Carter Jr., DB Jarrett Ross, RB Jacquille Veii, LB Cavon Walker, TE Andrew Isaacs, LS Joe Marchese, OL Moise Larose. All have traveled before.

The only noteworthy omission from the travel roster is wide receiver Taivon Jacobs, though not surprising given that Edsall suggested Thursday that the freshman speedster should redshirt this season. Besides, Jacobs didn’t travel to Connecticut and, with Nigel King healthy again, the Terps wouldn’t have much cause to play Jacobs this weekend.

>> Game captains are Brandon Ross (offense), Anthony Nixon (defense) & Matt Robinson (special teams).

Flag-bearers are Keith Bowers (American flag) and Kenneth Goins (Maryland flag).

Scout team players of the week were Jacobs (offense), Carter (defense) & Marchese (special teams).

>> The team flew Maryland One again.

Thanks for reading. Enjoy the game and your weekend.
