In the wake of losing one of his two right-hand officials, Maryland Athletic Director Kevin Anderson said he’s in no rush to begin the search process for replacing former deputy athletic director Nate Pine.
“I’m not in a hurry,” Anderson said via text message. “I want to look at all my options. You don’t replace a Nate Pine overnight.”
On Tuesday morning, Holy Cross announced that it had hired Pine to be its new athletic director, effective Feb. 1. He will be welcomed at an introductory news conference on Tuesday afternoon. Pine had worked with Anderson at both Oregon State, his alma mater, and Army before joining his staff in College Park in 2011.
“During his tenure at Maryland, Nathan has assumed a myriad of responsibilities and his proactive and strategic approach in external operations has helped our overall growth as an athletics department,” Anderson said in a news release. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Nathan for more than 10 years at both Oregon State and Army in addition to Maryland. He is a tremendous friend and colleague and I am excited that he is pursuing this outstanding opportunity.”
The base salary for Pine, in charge of external operations, at Maryland was $153,000. Chief operating officer Kelly Mehrtens, the other deputy athletic director beneath Anderson, makes $175,950.
