Name: Nate Adams.
Position: Long snapper.
High school: Greenway (Arizz.) High School.
Height, weight: 6 feet 2, 220 pounds.
Rank: Two stars (247sports and ESPN.com).
>> Adams, who committed to Maryland after an official visit this December, is ranked second nationally among 2014 long snappers by Kohl’s Kicking. The Terps lost their only long snapper on scholarship, Greg Parcher, to graduation, so offering Adams a full ride indicates that they’re prepared to start him for the next four seasons.
“I had been talking to a lot of schools before Maryland but I liked Maryland a lot,” Adams said. “They were honest with me. The whole recruiting process, you could tell others just weren’t being honest. I’m good friend with most of the kids [on the long snapping circuit] and some of the coaches were like, ‘You’re the only guy we’re recruiting.’ Then I learn they’re recruiting two of my friends.”
>> A linebacker in high school, Adams received a scholarship offer to play defense for Air Force, his only other offer. He also played some linebacker at the Semper Fi All-American Game in January because, in his words, standing around and snapping all day was “boring.”
>> Adams is a solid student who has taken Advanced Placement classes and, according to his father Phil, has a 4.3 grade-point average. He has been long snapping since sixth grade.
