Maryland picks up commitment from Woodbridge athlete Mike Majette

Just two days after it lost a commitment from a key cornerback in its class of 2015 recruiting class, Maryland picked up another pledge Monday in Woodbridge athlete Mike Majette.

Majette woke up Monday morning and decided to call the Maryland coaching staff with his decision, which was directly correlated with the decommitment of New Jersey cornerback Kareem Ali, who flipped to Temple on Saturday. Ali had been considered one of Maryland’s highest-rated commits in the Class of 2015.

“They had a corner decommit, so once I saw that I thought it was my time to call Coach Edsall and let him know that I’m ready to commit to Maryland,” Majette said.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Majette, who has started at quarterback and safety since his freshman season at Woodbridge, is listed as a three-star athlete by Rivals and considered the 39th best player in the state of Virginia. He will play corner at Maryland.

Majette is the second Virginia player from the class to commit to Maryland, which pulled in 12 recruits in June alone. That includes Texas safety Jameel Cooke and Delaware corner Darnell Savage Jr, and now Majette will join a defensive backfield that took a hit with Ali’s decision. Majette, who picked up the Maryland offer during a camp on June 8, is fresh off a visit to Tennessee and Wake Forest this weekend.

“I was always looking at Maryland. They might not have known that, but I was always interested in them,” Majette said. “I can make plays at the point of position. I’m going to go out there and compete with the best of them.”
