The Virginia governor's race between Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe has, to date, been a race to the bottom -- focused almost wholly on the character of the two men who want to succeed Bob McDonnell rather than what they would do once in office.

Writes the Post's Paul Schwartzmann of the race in today's paper:

Beginning more than six months before the election, the campaign’s unyielding ferocity — displayed at the candidates’ first debate, in television and Internet ads, and through e-mail and Twitter — is eclipsing what they say about the economy, health care and education.

The nastiness of the race in Virginia also caught our eye on "In Play", the new political show hosted by yours truly and Jackie Kucinich. Check out the clip below.

Thanks to scandals, the Virginia governor's race between Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe is less about the issues and more about the candidates' baggage. (The Washington Post)
