Here's Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis (D) heading to the polls Tuesday morning.

In case you were not aware, the logo on her shirt is an adaptation of the logo of the Staten Island hip-hop group the Wu-Tang Clan. (Editor's note: Philip's favorite member of Wu-Tang is GZA. I am more of a RZA guy.)

The Wu-Tang Clan, we can state with all due objectivity, is a very good group. Their heyday was the 1990s, although they reconstituted recently for a reunion of sorts (despite the death of Ol' Dirty Bastard, one of the group's stalwarts). Even if you don't recognize the name of the band (welcome back to Earth from deep space, by the way!), you probably recognize some of its members. Did you watch "The Wire"? Wu-Tang's Method Man played "Cheese." (You know, Cheese.) (Um, spoilers.)

The great thing about Election Day for candidates is that basically nothing you yourself can do makes any difference. Candidates knock on doors and make calls and so on, but it doesn't really matter. Those things are so incremental, and the election is so long, that candidates can basically just head to the movies and have the same effect.

So hip-hop is probably less popular in Texas than in other states, and the implications of semi-endorsing the Wu-Tang Clan could be tricky for a politician (they aren't family-friendly), but it doesn't really matter. Davis can roll in to vote, wearing her We-Davis Clan sweatshirt, and brush the dirt off her shoulder. (That's Jay Z.)
