Lincoln Chafee has had a very bad week — some folks might even say it was the worst week ... in Washington.

First, there was a debate in which he offered downright terrible defenses for a couple of votes — among them were that the votes passed overwhelmingly, that he had just been appointed to the Senate and that the line of questioning was "a little rough." Hillary Rodham Clinton declined to respond to one of his attacks with a curt "no." Then Wolf Blitzer asked the man, to his face, whether he was concerned about embarrassing himself.

But lest you think we're all being just a bit too hard on Chafee, witness the below cartoon, from the Houston Chronicle's Nick Anderson. It pretty well sums up why Chafee's answers were so bad. When you're running to be commander-in-chief, those kinds of excuses don't really fly.
