There are 201 days between today and the Nov. 8 presidential election. But, as of today, this election has already passed a remarkable milestone: More than $1 billion has been raised by candidates, parties and outside groups on it, according to calculations -- aka math -- by the Washington Post.
The lion's share of that total comes from the Republican presidential race where $765 million has already been raised. Democrats account for almost $462 million in fundraising. The grand total? $1.2 billion. And that's only through the end of March!
The big question now is whether 2016 will surpass the 2012 presidential election as the most expensive in history. That election cost $7 billion according to estimates from the Federal Election Commission.
