Did you know that we have Franklin Pierce, our nation's 14th president, to thank for the White House Christmas tree?

Yup! Pierce set up a tree in 1856 — on his way out of the White House. He was the first president to do so.

That's only one of the many things you can learn from this week's Ciquizza. WaPo's Joel Achenbach and Politico Magazine contributor Julia Ioffe battled it out over Christmas trees, a city nicknamed Porkopolis and who said, “I would say this is the roughest election.”
