Anthony Scaramucci is now a media entrepreneur, in case you didn't know, and his Scaramucci Post on Tuesday asked the Twitterverse to weigh in on the following question: How many Jews were killed in the Holocaust?

The poll offered four options.

The @ScaramucciPost Twitter account removed the poll after about 90 minutes and said the account manager, Lance Laifer, had posted it without consulting Scaramucci. Laifer said the poll was meant as a simple trivia question.

“The intent of the poll was to highlight ignorance of the basic facts of the Holocaust,” he wrote on Twitter.

Scaramucci did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment but later issued a statement on Twitter.

The problem with Laifer's defense is that the Scaramucci Post specializes in opinion polling. The presentation of Tuesday's poll suggested the Holocaust death toll is up for debate — and seemed to validate the claims of Holocaust deniers. (The poll also followed three tweets soliciting commentary on an Anne Frank Halloween costume.)

Before the poll was taken down, almost 6,000 votes had been cast; 1 in 5 respondents said fewer than 1 million Jews died in the Holocaust.

Even the “correct” answer, “more than 5 million,” could be viewed as understating the actual death toll, which was 6 million.

“Hopefully all of you've been enjoying the polling on the Scaramucci Post,” Scaramucci said in a Twitter video on Sept. 27. “We've been having a lot of fun ourselves.”

Since leaving the White House, Scaramucci has criticized the Trump administration for its “toleration” of white supremacist views. Here's an exchange with Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show” in August:

COLBERT: Mooch, David Duke was at this rally in Charlottesville. He said that they want to fulfill the promises of Donald Trump. That is why they, the Klan, voted for Donald Trump. Are there elements of white supremacy within the White House right now? Is Steve Bannon a white supremacist?
SCARAMUCCI: I, again, I don't think he's a white supremacist, although I've never asked him if he's a white supremacist. What I don't like, though, is the toleration of it. It's something that should be totally and completely intolerated.

On ABC's “The View” last month, Scaramucci said that Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist who now heads Breitbart News, displays the “tendencies” of white nationalism. White nationalists seek a whites-only state, exclusive of Jews.

If Scaramucci is trying to distance himself from “the toleration” of hateful views that he says he observed in the White House, then Tuesday's Twitter poll sure won't help.
