Netflix keeps getting faster for Comcast subscribers, for some strange reason

Three months ago, Netflix agreed to pay Comcast for faster and more reliable Internet service. It seems to be working.

Comcast customers now get Netflix content faster than customers using most other Internet providers, according to Netflix. Only Cox and Cablevision provide faster service.

Comcast had the fifth fastest service just a month ago and eleventh the month before that. It seems as though the agreement — whose terms  are undisclosed — is improving streaming speeds, with Comcast customers getting video at 2.77 megabits per second, on average. In the chart below, its speeds are represented by the line in blue.

Meanwhile, no improvements reported yet from Verizon, which Netflix also signed a deal with recently. Its DSL service (the orange line above) lags near the bottom of the stack at 15th, while speeds on FiOS (the brown line) are unchanged at eighth place in the index. It's still early, as the two companies only reached their agreement near the end of last month. Still, Verizon subscribers might want to keep a close eye on those numbers.
