Where you can and can’t find a home to buy in the D.C. metro region

(Gwyneth Roberts/Associated Press)

As any prospective home buyer in the D.C. metro region can tell you, there are not a lot of homes to choose from on the market right now. But some places have more to offer than others. With the help of StreetEasy, we took a look at the Zip codes in the area with the most and fewest active listings, keeping in mind that housing density among Zip codes can vary greatly.

Last month when we looked at which areas had the most sales, Virginia came in first, with nine of the top 10 jurisdictions located in the commonwealth. So it’s not surprising that Alexandria Zip code 22314, which topped last month’s list for most sales, also leads the most active listings list this month. There are 102 properties for sale in Zip code 22314.

Leesburg Zip code 20176 has the second-most active listings with 98, followed by District Zip code 20009 (Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Logan Circle) with 96.

The list of most active listings is as follows:

  1. Alexandria Zip code 22314 (102 active listings)
  2. Leesburg Zip code 20176 (98)
  3. District Zip code 20009 (96)

  5. District Zip code 20002 (Trinidad, Ivy City, Eckington) (84)

  7. Gaithersburg Zip code 20878 (80)
  8. District Zip code 20011 (Petworth, Brightwood, Manor Park) (78)
  9. Potomac Zip code 20854 (73)
