Parcel that was part of Mount Vernon Estate sells for $18.6M
A parcel that formerly was a part of George Washington’s Mount Vernon sold for $18.6 million — the highest price on record in Northern Virginia, the highest sale in the history of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty and the highest in the Washington area in 2.5 years.
Known as River View Estate, this 16.5-acre parcel is the largest privately held and developable piece of land that was once part of Mount Vernon.
The land includes more than 380 feet of waterfront property along the Potomac River, is 10 miles from Washington River View Estate and has a 6,000-square-foot manor home, a guest house, a carriage house and staff quarters.

Montgomery Village apartments to undergo renovations
Cider Mill, an 864-unit garden-style apartment complex in Montgomery Village, was recently acquired for about $110 million by the Donaldson Group and Angelo, Gordon & Co.
The partners plan a $15 million renovation to the property. It is across the street from Lakeforest Mall, which is currently undergoing a renovation.
Cider Mill sits on 42 acres one mile from Interstate 270 and 1.5 miles from the Gaithersburg MACR commuter rail station. The development has 72 garden apartment buildings constructed between 1971 and 1973 with one-, two- and three-bedroom units that range from 690 to 1,140 square feet.
Community amenities include a swimming pool, a fitness center, playgrounds, a car wash station, laundry facilities, picnic and barbecue areas and a resident services center. The entire community and amenities will be upgraded and individual heat pumps will be installed for each unit along with new kitchens, carpeting, bathrooms, doors, fixtures and in-unit washer-dryers.
Green luxury apartment to be built in Bethesda
Construction of Element 28, a luxury high-rise apartment building in Bethesda designed by R2L Architects, is set to begin in mid-2014.
