Bozzuto Homes, a division of the Bozzuto Group, is prepping the site and will start construction later this summer on Parker15, a nine-story condominium building at 2011 15th St. NW.

Named after jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker in a nod to the jazz history of the U Street Corridor, the condo at 15th and V streets will have 96 units, including studios and one- and two-bedroom floorplans.

The development, which is rising in place of a former parking lot that previously was home to the Dunbar Hotel, will include a community lounge, a meeting room, a ground-level patio, a rooftop deck and a parking garage with 37 spaces, storage closets and bicycle storage space.

Many of the residences will have floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies. Every unit will have European-style kitchen cabinets, quartz countertops and wood flooring.

The building has been designed by WDG Architecture. Prices have yet to be set for the condos and sales are anticipated to begin in winter 2015.

RealtyTrac enters mobile app market

RealtyTrac, a source for comprehensive housing data, recently launched a new mobile app for iPhones and iPads that makes it easier for prospective buyers and investors to gather information with the click of their device’s camera.

Users can take a photo of any house to see its listing status, market value and foreclosure information. In addition, they can use the app to find houses for sale, recently sold houses, foreclosures and houses that are not on the market through a map or list search format.

Users can refine the search based on price range, square footage, property type, foreclosure and listing status, year built, auction status, bankruptcy status, lender name and even the amount of equity in the property.

Users of the free app can set up alerts, save searches and share houses on Facebook or Twitter and connect with local real estate agents. RealtyTrac subscribers will be able to log on for additional information, but most of the property information will be available with the free app.

Washington ranked No. 1 most walkable city

A recent report, “Foot Traffic Ahead: Ranking Walkable Urbanism in America’s Largest Metros,” by Smart Growth America, LOCUS and the Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis at George Washington University School of Business ranked Washington as the No. 1 most walkable city.

New York City ranked second; Boston, third; San Francisco, fourth; and Chicago, fifth.

The study says that this ranking is based on the presence of retail and office sites within walkable neighborhoods and because of the balance of walkable areas in both the city and its suburbs.

According to the study, 51 percent of walkable neighborhoods are in the city and 49 percent in the suburbs.

Housing policy forum at Newseum

An array of housing experts and policymakers, including economists from Zillow, the National Association of Realtors, the Mortgage Bankers Association and demographic and housing experts, will participate July 24 in “The Big Picture: A Longer Term Perspective on Housing” half-day housing conference organized by Zillow.

Topics will include:

• challenges posed by rising mortgage rates

• mortgage finance reform

• how to house the millennial generation

• new trends in urban and suburban planning

• the growth in rental housing.
