Mixed-use developments are transforming downtown Silver Spring and drawing more residents to take advantage of the abundant entertainment, retail, employment and transportation options in the area.

Grosvenor Americas recently began redevelopment of 8455 Fenton St. into a 243-unit apartment complex with 17,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. Grosvenor Americas worked with the Montgomery County Planning Board and the First Baptist Church, which had stood at the corner of Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street for the past 50 years, to redevelop the site.

A new church and a daycare center will be constructed on an adjacent property and a public walkway will be built between Wayne Avenue and Bonifant Street as part of the project. Central is  across the street from the new Silver Spring Library and a short walk from the Silver Spring Metro station as well as multiple restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

The grand opening of Central is anticipated to take place in the fall of 2017. The building will have 41 studio apartments, 139 one-bedroom apartments and 63 two-bedroom apartments. Rents are to be determined. Planned building amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a rooftop lounge, an indoor/outdoor entertainment area, a business center, a Wi-Fi lounge, a fitness center, a yoga studio, a clubroom with a kitchenette, storage lockers, a bike repair station and a dog-washing station. The development will have 236 parking spaces.
