Whether you’re looking for an affordable rental in a hip part of the District or just love living with a bunch of roommates, Ditto Residential has a new answer to the traditional D.C. group house.

The company developed OSLO, a communal-living building in Shaw that opened in December 2014, which has apartments designed specifically for sharing with roommates. While that nine-unit, 33-bedroom development has been consistently fully rented and has a waiting list, the developer will begin leasing OSLO in the Atlas District this month, with move-ins set for January 2017. The original OSLO apartments each had three to five bedrooms.

The concept is to reduce the stress of living with roommates by designing apartments with a bathroom for each bedroom and large communal areas for living, dining and cooking together. Each bedroom and bathroom combination is approximately the same size to eliminate arguments over which roommate gets the better room.

The new OSLO, at 1219 Florida Ave. NE, is a four-story building with eight five-bedroom apartments. The developer, based on feedback from the first building, increased the amount of freezer and refrigerator space for each apartment to make it easier for residents to share their cooking space. The finishes in the apartments are high-end and yet easy maintenance with the aim of attracting post-college millennials and young professionals.

Rents for each room start at $1,100, so a five-bedroom apartment is $5,500 total per month.
