The roof deck at Arris in Southeast Washington is part of the Capitol Riverfront BID’s “Rooftop Hop.” (Forest City Washington)

Visiting model apartments can be a fun way to while away an afternoon and compare living options, but the Capitol Riverfront BID has come up with a twist on tradition. The “Rooftop Hop” is a combination of an apartment hunt, a sightseeing trip and a showcase for local restaurants.

On June 3, the rooftop terraces of several apartment buildings in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood in Southeast Washington will be open to the public to allow residents and visitors to get a new perspective on this rapidly developing area. Registered visitors can visit the rooftops of Arris, Dock 79, First Residences, Insignia on M, One Hill South and Ore 82 apartments.

Complimentary food and drinks from local restaurants such as Agua 301, Rasa Indian Grill, Due South and Ice Cream Jubilee will be served on each rooftop. Visitors can also take a hard-hat tour of the future residential building 1221 Van and see the Up Top Acres urban rooftop farm at 55 M St. SE.

The rooftops are open from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by a free wine tasting and live music at Canal Park.

Registration for the free event is required. Click here to register.
