The Blue Door Inn at 127 Thurstons Way in Mooresville, N.C., has a blue door, but it’s never been an inn — just a welcoming vacation home for Robert Boykin and his family and friends.
Located in The Point, a gated community on Lake Norman, the two-acre property includes 650 feet of shoreline and a resort-like back yard with space for entertaining, a saltwater infinity swimming pool, a 12-person hot tub and a three-story stone fireplace.
The residence includes a boat dock with a lift and space for three boats. The community includes a Trump National Golf Club with a course designed by Greg Norman, a ballroom, a racquet club and a lakeside boardwalk.
The mansion, which has nearly 13,000 square feet, was built in 2009 to resemble a New England beach house. The house has five bedrooms, one of which is a “bunk room” with stacked beds for children, and nine bathrooms.
Some of the more unusual features of the home include a gallery with space for four cars and a motorcycle that has antique tin ceilings and floors and functions as an entertaining space.
“My favorite part of this home is the view of the lake, followed up closely by our garage, which we designed to be reminiscent of an antique car dealership,” says Boykin.
The first-floor master bedroom suite includes a turret with a reading nook overlooking Lake Norman.
The lower level has a 1,500-bottle wine cellar and adjacent tasting room. The house has a screening room, a fitness center, a billiards room, a shuffle board room and an art studio.
The house will be sold at an auction without a minimum reserve amount. The house was previously listed for sale at more than $9.5 million.
“As much as we love life at our Lake Norman home, we’re finding ourselves living at our Naples, Fla., home far more often,” says Boykin. “That’s where we will spend the majority of our time in the coming years.”
The property is open for visitors Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. The auction will be held Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
