Wizards at Cavaliers: Game 1 discussion thread

(Katherine Frey/The Washington Post)

John Wall and Nene are sidelined but the schedule won’t wait for them. The 2012-13 season tips off for the Wizards tonight in Cleveland.

At this morning’s shootaround, Coach Randy Wittman talked about his starting lineup, which features rookie Bradley Beal, A.J. Price, Emeka Okafor and the two Trevors (Ariza and Booker).

None of those players were among the starting five when the team ended the regular season against the Cavaliers and the unit features four players who weren’t on the team last year. Booker was on the roster but ended the season on the inactive list because of plantar fasciitis.

The Wizards are 20-31 all-time in season openers and 10-22 on the road. The last time they won a season opener on the road was 2009, when they defeated Dallas in Flip Saunders’s debut as head coach. They last opened the season in Cleveland in 2006, when the Cavaliers won, 97-94, as Larry Hughes and LeBron James combined for 53 points.
