Wizards at Miami: Game 3 Open Thread

MIAMI – The Wizards will be without Nene as they attempt to win their first game of the season against the two-time defending champion Miami Heat.

Coach Randy Wittman said would Nene be a “game time” decision but the Brazilian big man was still in street clothes an hour before the 6 p.m. tip-off.

Nene has been sidelined with a strained left calf since getting hurt in the season-opening loss to Detroit and plans to have an MRI on Monday when the Wizards return to Washington. He struggled to move as the team left the Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday and hasn’t practiced. The pain in his leg extends from his calf to his Achilles’ tendon, which led Nene to examine the problem.

After developing back spasms in the fourth quarter of the Wizards’ loss to Philadelphia, John Wall will play, Wittman said. “I think [he] is going to be fine. He’s going to go out there. He was feeling pretty good at shootaround.”

The Wizards have lost their past three meetings against Miami after winning the previous three gaames. Miami last won in Miami on April 21, 2012, when John Wall found Nene cutting to the basket for the decisive layup in an 86-84 victory.
