Bobcats at Wizards: Game 64 Open Thread

The Washington Wizards will look to gain a bit more ground in the Eastern Conference playoff race when they take on Southeast Division foe Charlotte on Wednesday night.

With the Wizards, who currently hold the fifth playoff spot, just 3.5 games ahead of the seventh-place Bobcats, extra help could come in the form of Kevin Seraphin. After missing the last seven games with a sore right knee, the 6-foot-10 forward will be available for Wednesday’s game, according to Wizards Coach Randy Wittman.

How Seraphin fits into the rotation remains to be seen. Since signing his second 10-day contract, Drew Gooden has given the Wizards another mid-range threat off the bench, averaging 13.3 points in his last three games. But with Charlotte’s Al Jefferson on a tear since the teams’ last meeting on Jan. 7 and Gerald Henderson (calf sprain) expected to return to the Bobcats starting lineup on Wednesday, having Seraphin as solid post defender could prove key.

“We’re going to have our hands full,” Wittman said in reference to Jefferson before Wednesday’s game. “We’re going to have to do a good job of not only the guy guarding him but the team defense of digging the ball out and helping (Marcin Gortat) or whoever it’s on.”

The Wizards have won four of its last five meetings against the Bobcats in Washington. Charlotte is just 1-8 against Southeast Division teams, with its lone win coming against last-place Orlando.
