Three Numbers for Garrett Temple’s 2013-14 season

After starting 36 games for the Washington Wizards in place of the injured John Wall and Bradley Beal in 2012-13, Garrett Temple saw his minutes diminish amid the team’s healthy starters and acquisition of new players. Still, the fourth-year guard managed to have an impact as a trusted leader and defender for the Wizards young backcourt.

Here are three numbers from Temple’s 2013-14 season:

Average minutes played by Temple in the first 47 games of season. With Otto Porter injured for the first few weeks of his rookie campaign and Eric Maynor struggling to adjust as the backup point guard, Temple found consistent opportunities due to his defensive skills and ability to set up the team’s offense. However, when Andre Miller arrived via trade in late February, Temple played just 43 total minutes in the team’s final 39 games of the season.

Times that Temple scored double-digit points. Far from the scorer that Wall or Beal is, Temple’s season-high on offense came when he scored 10 points in 13 minutes during a January 13 win against Chicago. In most of his 75 regular-season appearances, Temple focused his attention on defense, hounding opponents with his lengthy frame and high basketball IQ.

Temple’s assist ratio (or number of assists Temple averaged per 100 possessions). Despite seeing fewer minutes this past season, the Wizards could trust Temple to set up the offense and find the open man, making for an assist ratio that ranked fourth-best on the team.
