‘Sometimes you get proper care. Sometimes you don’t. It’s kind of a coin toss.’

For all the time we spend talking about health policy here, its nice to put a human face on how policy affects people's lives. "The Waiting Room" is a new documentary that does just that. Filmmaker Peter Nicks shot the entire movie inside a California public hospital's emergency department.

He met people like Alex McGinness, who recently lost his health insurance and is at the emergency department for an oral surgery. He still has 13 more appointments until the procedure will be done:

There's also one of the hospital's residents, Jahan Faimi, who talks about the busloads of patients that arrive in the morning, almost like "an exodus."
