In his decision to lead the Heritage Foundation, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) isn't taking any old think tank job. He's inheriting the top-paid think tank post in Washington: Current president Edwin Feulner earned $1.1 million in 2010, the most recent year for which IRS data is available.

That's significantly higher than at the other big think tanks in Washington, places like the Brookings Institution or Council on Foreign Relations. National Journal dug into the data earlier this year using IRS data from 2009 and 2010. Here are the top 10 on their list:

It's worth pointing out who doesn't make this list. Jason Grumet of the Bipartisan Policy Center fell just short of the list with earnings of $380,844 followed by New America Foundation's Steve Coll ($332,177) and Center for America Progress's John Podesta ($274,103).
