A new system that will require all US employers to check if job applicants are authorized to work, risks being a bureaucratic nightmare for immigrants and US citizens alike, critics say. The E-Verify system, part of a comprehensive immigration reform package passed by the US Senate last month, draws on official databases to decide if an individual has the right to work in the United States. The reform package -- which must still be approved by the House of Representatives -- also calls for the US-Mexico border fence to be bolstered as well as implementing E-Verify nationally.
