A rocket has struck Holon, a suburb just south of Tel Aviv, according to Haaretz. Al Jazeera reports that Islamic Jihad, a Gaza-based group distinct from Hamas, has claimed responsibility. The Israeli military tells Haaretz's Barak Ravid that the strike caused no damage or casualties. The above map shows the locations of Holon and Tel Aviv, marked by the letters A and B, respectively. Tel Aviv is Israel's second largest city, with a population of about 400,000. The greater Tel Aviv area contains 3.4 million people.

Analysts have predicted that a successful strike on Tel Aviv would make an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza much more likely. The Israeli military began air strikes on Gaza targets Wednesday, and also announced its readiness to deploy ground forces.
