Video: Scary near-miss over runway at Barcelona airport

A UTAir pilot appeared to come uncomfortably close to a disaster Saturday, aborting landing as another plane crossed the runway in its path.

The near-accident Saturday morning spurred Spain's aviation oversight organization AENA to launch an investigation, Spanish newspaper El País reported Monday.

The would-be crash was filmed and posted to YouTube by Miguel Angel Ramirez, a Barcelona-based aviation enthusiast.

In the dramatic video, the SkyTeam plane appears to pass just under the UTAir aircraft, though aviation officials have downplayed the risks. "It is a serious incident but there was no risk of collision," David Guillamón, spokesman for the Association of Air Traffic Controllers (APROCTA), explained to El Pais.

In 2008, a plane crash in Madrid left more than 150 dead when the jet aborted its takeoff and skidded off the runway.
