It has been five years since a devastating earthquake struck Haiti and left much of the country's infrastructure in ruins.

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed about 316,000 people and left 1.5 million homeless. Despite receiving more than 80 percent of the $12.45 billion in aid pledged  by more than 50 countries and agencies, Haiti is still struggling to recover.

The temblor hit Jan. 12, 2010, and destroyed tens of thousands of buildings. People from around the world rushed to help Haiti with the recovery and rebuilding process.

Here is a selection of images comparing Port-au-Prince, the capital, in the days after the earthquake and as it is today.
